Farmers Market
By hearkening back to a time before big grocery store
chains, the farmers market has become an increasingly popular way to
shop for produce. They are the easiest way to obtain farm fresh produce
within an urban landscape. According to the United States Department
of Agriculture, there are currently over 4,600 such markets in the U.S.
The farmers market often hosts various events by local chefs and organizations,
as well as musical entertainment. These events can range from presenting
a new recipe to open forum discussions about environmental issues. Family-oriented
fun and food are the heart and soul of these markets.
When most people think of the farmers market they will automatically
think of produce. Produce, however, is only the tip of the iceberg.
Meats, dairy, and even baked goods are all readily available at these
events.
